Chinese Stroke Counter – Estimate Total Hanzi Strokes

The stroke count is an estimate based on a standard stroke dictionary. Most common characters are covered, but counts may vary slightly between different standards (e.g., PRC vs Taiwan norms). The tool clearly shows its coverage rate so you know how complete the analysis is.

This tool uses stroke count data derived from the Unihan database (kTotalStrokes), which follows widely accepted standards. Note that some characters may have different stroke counts in different regional standards.

Characters not found in the stroke dictionary are listed in the 'Missing Characters' section. Their strokes are not included in the total. The coverage rate shows what percentage of your text's Hanzi were successfully looked up.

The dictionary includes both Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters. However, the same character may have different stroke counts depending on the standard used. The tool uses a single unified count per character.

Common variant characters are included in the dictionary. However, rare or archaic variant forms may not be covered and will appear in the missing characters list.

Currently, the tool shows aggregate statistics (total strokes, average per character). Per-character stroke breakdown is planned for a future update.

No. The tool automatically filters out punctuation, numbers, spaces, and non-Chinese characters before counting strokes. Only Hanzi (Chinese characters) are included in the stroke analysis.
